If you’re having a scheduled C-section, you might be feeling a mix of emotions—relief, nerves, excitement, and maybe a little uncertainty about what to expect. That’s totally normal! While a C-section is a different kind of birth experience, it’s still your birth story—and there’s so much you can do to prepare and feel confident heading into it.
Here’s a gentle guide to help you get ready for your baby’s arrival through a planned C-section:
1. Learn What to Expect
Knowing the basics can help calm those “what ifs.” A scheduled C-section is usually more

calm and controlled than an emergency one. You’ll typically check in a few hours before your surgery time, meet with your care team, and get settled in. The procedure itself usually takes about 45 minutes, with your baby arriving in the first 10–15 minutes!
Knowledge is power! Ask your provider about:
What happens before, during, and after surgery
Who can be with you in the operating room
Hospital stay length and what recovery looks like
2. Pack with Comfort in Mind
Bring cozy clothes that are loose around your belly (think high-waisted underwear and soft robes), items that help you feel grounded (like your favorite pillow or essential oils), and postpartum must-haves like:
Frida Mom C-section recovery underwear
Belly binder (check with your doctor first!)
Nursing pillow (helpful even if you’re bottle-feeding)
3. Prepare for Recovery Support

Your body is doing big work— you carried your baby for 9+ months and are now healing from major abdominal surgery! Give yourself grace.
Set up a little recovery zone at home with:
Snacks, water, and baby essentials within arm’s reach
A comfy spot to rest that doesn’t require too much bending or climbing
Help from your partner, family, or a
postpartum doula—especially in the first 2 weeks
4. Support Your Body Before and After

Gentle movement, breathing exercises, and pelvic floor awareness can help both before and after your C-section.
Our pelvic floor physical therapists can help guide you on:
Pre-surgery tips for posture, mobility, and breathwork
Early postpartum recovery exercises to support healing
Scar care, core connection, and returning to movement safely
